Home prices impact SAR ranking

HONG Kong dropped one place this year to rank 71st out of 231 cities in overall quality of living, according to a survey conducted by consulting firm Mercer. In.uencing the ranking was the region’s high home prices as well as political and social uncertainties.

Vienna (維也納) led for the eighth year, with most of the top 10 being European cities: Zurich (蘇黎世) was in second place, Munich (慕尼黑) was fourth, and Dusseldorf (杜塞爾多夫), Frankfurt (法蘭克福), Geneva (日內瓦), Copenhagen (哥本哈根) and Basel (巴塞爾) were ranked from sixth to 10th.

Auckland (奧克蘭), New Zealand (紐西蘭) was third and Vancouver (溫哥華), Canada (加拿大) was .fth.

Singapore (新加坡) topped the ranking in Asia, followed by .ve Japanese cities – Tokyo (東京), Kobe (神戶), Yokohama (橫濱), Osaka (大阪) and Nagoya (名古屋).

City infrastructure, assessed separately this year, covered factors including supply of electricity, drinking water, telephone and mall services, public transport and traf.c congestion, and the range of international . ights available.

Singapore topped this category, while Frankfurt and Munich shared second place, Copenhagen was fourth and Dusseldorf fifth. Hong Kong and London (倫敦) both ranked sixth.

Mercer noted that a well-developed infrastructure can help cities attract multinational companies, talent, and foreign investments.
