Youths not keen on Greater Bay

ALMOST 70 percent of Hong Kong’s youths are unwilling to work in the mainland side of the Greater Bay Area (大灣區) but half of them prefer to start a business there, a poll showed.
In a Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG, 香港青年協會) survey of 522 people aged between 18 and 39 in January, respondents cited the mainland’s different legal system as the biggest obstacle to starting businesses there.
Other obstacles when working or setting up a business on the mainland were differing tax rates (80percent) and commercial systems (74 percent).
Around 92 percent have heard of the Greater Bay Area but 67 percent were unwilling to commute from Hong Kong to Guangdong for work; 62 percent were unwilling to live there. But, 50 percent prefer starting a business there.
Ernest Chan Ho-sing (陳浩升) of Youth Ideas (青年創研庫), an HKFYG think tank, urged Beijing to set up a new bureau to coordinate between Hong Kong, Macau and the nine Guangdong cities under the project, with a one-stop entrepreneurship and employment information platform to streamline business procedures.
Think tank member Denis Huen Yin-fan (禤彥勳) suggested the Hong Kong government establish a council for young local entrepreneurs to promote entrepreneurial and job opportunities.
