THE long-awaited Hong Kong News Expo (HKNE, 香港新聞博覽館) – the first newsoriented exhibition venue in Asia – has opened at a rejuvenated historic building in Central.
Apart from learning about the media industry, visitors can have a taste of being a news anchor in an interactive booth.
The opening ceremony brought together news journalists, scholars and guests at the newly renovated former Bridges Street Market (必列啫士街市場), a grade-three historic building.
Among them was Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor (林鄭月娥). She hopes people can feel the reporters’ spirit of pursuing truth after having a taste of news reporting at HKNE.
She was most impressed by the part of the expo which shows how media reports on the same incident from different angles.
The idea of setting up a news expo came about after members of the Journalism Education Foundation (新聞教育基金) visited a similar expo in the United States 10 years ago.
HKNE is open to the public with prior reservations from Tuesday to Sunday between 10am to 7pm. Entry is free of charge.
Apart from the permanent exhibition, the expo currently runs two thematic exhibitions on the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake (四川地震) and the Olympic equestrian competitions in Hong Kong.
