THE Hong Kong Space Museum (香港太空館) reopened to the public with two new halls that offer more exhibits.
After more than two years of renovations, the new exhibition halls – the Hall of the Cosmos on the ground floor and the Hall of Space Exploration on the first floor – were installed with more than 100 new exhibits.
Around 70 percent of the exhibits are interactive. These include Aurora, which allows visitors to adjust the strength of solar winds inside a vacuum tube to create a mini-aurora, while Icy Bodies creates comets with dry ice on a water surface to simulate their jet streams and movements.
At Gravity Surfing, visitors can stand on surf boards for a simulated adventure through different celestial objects to help them better understand the warping of space by gravity.
A popular exhibit that allowed visitors to experience a moonwalk has been transformed into the Moon Jump where visitors can try the thrill of jumping on the moon by sitting on a special chair.
The Hall of the Cosmos will provide people with the opportunity to explore the vastness of the universe, from the nearest solar system, including the sun and Earth, to the stars, Milky Way and galaxies far away.
It is expected that the new exhibition halls will attract about 500,000 people a year, which is 100,000 more than in the past.
