A SCHOOL principal received high praise for helping an exam candidate.

The student had turned up at the wrong venue for the history paper of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education.

She was supposed to go to Kiangsu-Chekiang College (蘇浙公學) in North Point. However, she mixed up her addresses, and went to Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School (嶺南衡怡紀念中學), the venue for her economics exam.

After realising she was in the wrong place, she rushed to Methodist Church Hong Kong Wesley College (衞理中學) in Siu Sai Wan, hoping to find a school hosting a history exam. There, principal Nam Ching-sze (藍正思), was greeting students at the entrance around 8.15am.

“I saw a girl who looked like a HKDSE candidate panicking. So I asked her if I could help,” Nam said.

Realising the problem, Nam had the vice principal call the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, which said the closest venue was Kiangsu-Chekiang.

The candidate wanted to pass up on the exam as she did not have enough money for a taxi. But Nam immediately gave her HK$500.

After making it to her exam, she later posted the experience anonymously on Facebook. Netizens were quick to applaud Nam for coming to the rescue of the girl.

“What a good model!” one said.

But one netizen criticised Nam for “obstructing the justice of the exam”.
