School to poll parents on TSA

A PRIMARY school in Kwun Tong (觀塘) will poll parents on whether they will let their children take part in trial runs of the new Territory-wide System Assessment (全港性系統評估) papers.

Baptist Rainbow Primary School (浸信會天虹小學) is one of 50 schools invited by the Education Bureau (教育局) to join a pilot scheme for the papers.

Parents may choose from three suggestions. The first is a ‘Warrior Sports Day’ and ‘Game Learning Day’ for pupils to have different learning activities, while the second choice will be having normal lessons.

The third will see their children sit for tests in three subjects – Chinese, English and mathematics – on 14 and 15 June.

Students also need to attend oral, visual and listening tests on 3 or 4 May, depending on arrangements.

Principal Chu Tsz-wing (朱子穎) said it was a good chance for parents to think about the implications of the TSA.

“I want to have all the parents’ opinions, as it involves the school’s development direction in the future,” Chu said.

He said the school will submit the results of the poll to the incorporated management committee for a final decision.

The revised version of TSA papers is easier and more straightforward for Primary 3 students.

The schools need to reply on or before 14 March, and attend a briefing on 21 March for more details.

No vigorous resistance was seen from the schools, and some of them have agreed to join the test, said Aided Primary School Heads Association (資助小學校長會) chairman Raymond Lai Tsz-man (賴子文).
