Illegal trade in exotic pets grows

MANY people who take selfies with cute animals and post them on social media might be putting the animal in danger. This is because many users are trying to keep these animals, many of which are endangered, as pets.
Wild otters are very popular as pets. Nicole Duplaix, the co-chair of the Otter Specialist Group at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN,國際自然保護聯盟), said: “The illegal trade in otters has suddenly increased exponentially.”
This demand for otters and other endangered animals, according to conservationists, could make the animal become extinct. A large part of this is because hunters that capture animal families kill the mother so that the babies can be sold. India (印度) has asked for a ban on this trade.
