Solid waste levels on the rise Government worried landfills are filling up2018.01.08
THE Environmental Protection Department (EPD, 環保署) released a report that says in 2016, 5.61 million tonnes of solid waste were sent to landfills. There was an average of 10,345 tonnes of municipal waste daily. Although there was less household waste, the amount of industrial and commercial waste has increased. The highest percentage of solid waste belongs to food waste, which is at 35 percent.
The EPD said food waste has risen 6.5 percent from 2015. But household food waste has actually dropped to an average of 0.32kg per day per person, which means residents have gained more knowledge about food waste.
