School-aged children too stressed2017.02.17
ACCORDING to clinical psychologist Daisy Chow (鄒凱詩), about five to six out of every 10 primary and kindergarten students have emotional problems because of pressure from homework.
Chow said that she met a K3 student who had to do copying exercises and answer logic questions. The student could not catch up with the lessons and began to cry a lot, have nightmares and even hit others. The child finally transferred to a less demanding school.
Chow suggested parents should let students finish the harder exercises first, when they will be most alert. Chow noted that the attention span of kindergarteners is usually 15 to 20 minutes, and primary students is usually 25 minutes to half an hour.
