Poo posted to ‘mock’ commerce secretary:Parcels sent after minister called for tolerance of mainlanders
2014.05.21THE Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Gregory So Kam-leung (蘇錦樑), got three bags of poo in the post! The parcels, each containing a letter and faeces, were sent to his office and home.
So was targeted when he used the word ‘tolerance’ in response to a public outcry against a mainland couple allowing their child to urinate on a busy Mong Kok street.
Critics said there was no place for such behavior in Hong Kong. But So has defended his statement saying tolerating people did not mean indulging inappropriate actions.
The secretary received the smelly parcels on 29 April and 5 May. He said that mocking him by sending the parcels was very ‘unwise’. “I hope that everyone
can express themselves in civilised and rational ways,” he said.
Writing in a Chinese-language newspaper, So said it takes time for mainlanders to change their habits. He also said that by scolding and filming the incident, onlookers had already put pressure on those involved.
