Covid-19 doubles baked beans sales2020.05.25
Scientists said food is full of nutrients
DURING the Covid-19 lockdown, many Australians (澳洲人) turned to old comfort foods, such as baked beans. Located in Shepparton, Victoria, the country’s biggest producer of tinned fruits and vegetables, said they had to make about 500,000 baked bean tins, which is double their usual number.
Clare Collins, a nutritionist at the University of Newcastle, said, “I think most people don’t understand the nutritional value of baked beans.” According to the country’s health and welfare research centre, only seven percent of adults and five percent of children in Australia eat enough vegetables every day.
So most Australians should eat more vegetables, and nutritionists think beans are a good source of such – specifically, tinned baked beans that have been cooked with tomatoes. Collins added that beans are a good source of iron, and the vitamin C in tomatoes helps bodies absorb more of it.
