Bluetooth used to trace Covid-19 cases Tech companies warn users of virus2020.05.04
APPLE and Google, longtime rivals, are working together to use Bluetooth wireless technology to trace whom Covid-19 patients have had contact with. They hope to help health departments to find the origin of the cases and its chain of infection.
The two companies announced in April that the project will start in May. For now, they will only help users who are already using a health app on either phone system.
The two tech giants’ idea is that, through the Bluetooth in smartphones, they can see where a user has stayed put for a long time. If another person in that location is confirmed to have the coronavirus, the user will receive a phone message that they might get infected.
