Children’s Peace Prize handed out Climate activist Thunberg a recipient2019.12.11
THE 16-year-old Swedish (瑞典的) climate activist Greta Thunberg and Cameroonian (喀麥隆的) children’s education rights advocate Divina Maloum, aged 15, were awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize by the KidsRights Foundation, in the Netherlands (荷蘭) recently.
Thunberg’s call for student strikes has been answered by youngsters everywhere. Their goal was to get different governments to adopt greener policies and measures, so as to fight climate change. Maloum, who set up the Children for Peace group, visited many schools, mosques and markets in her country to spread the call for children’s education rights.
Thunberg and Maloum were each awarded 100,000 Euros (about HK$867,000). Since Thunberg could not be at the ceremony in person, she sent a video saying how thankful she was through her smartphone.
