Facebook removes 3.2 billion fake accounts Cleaning process took 7 months2019.12.04
FACEBOOK, the social media platform with the most users, has removed 3.2 billion fake accounts between April and September. It also deleted hundreds of thousands of posts not appropriate for children. In fact, 5.4 billion fake accounts were deleted between January and September.
This is the fourth report Facebook released since it started using detection tools to increase monitoring of its accounts. It is also the first time the company talked about removing Instagram posts and accounts, as the website is also owned by
Facebook. It also said the fake accounts were removed before anyone else could see them. Facebook thinks that of the 2.45 billion accounts on the site, only 5 percent are fake. It also said it removed more accounts than before because there were more accounts in total and because the detection tools have improved.
