AFAMILY in Hawaii (夏威夷州) has produced the world’s heaviest avocado, which weighs 2.54kg, and was certified by the Guinness World Records. The Pokini family, consisting of Juliane, Mark and Loihi, planted the seed over 10 years ago, back when Loihi was born.
The seed was from the Pokinis’ brother-in-law; more precisely, his parents’ 50-year-old tree. Currently, the Pokinis’ tree, which is 6 metres tall, has been producing larger and larger avocadoes for the past five years, despite the Pokinis not fertilising or watering it.
Most avocadoes are about 170g,but the Pokinis’ was 15 times heavier. The avocado was actually certified in December 2018, but the certificate only arrived recently. Afterwards, the Pokinis made guacamole out of it and shared it.
