Giant panda twins born Berlin zoo welcomes two new cubs2019.09.23
IT is not easy for giant pandas to get pregnant and have cubs. But the Berlin Zoo (柏林動物園) welcomed two brand new panda cubs in early September. Their parents, the mother Meng Meng (夢夢) and a male fellow giant panda, Jiao Qing (嬌慶), arrived at the zoo in June 2017.
The two cubs were born with one weighing 136 grams and the other 186 grams. But the zoo does not know their genders yet. A video was filmed showing Meng Meng guiding one of the baby bears to being nursed.
China is famous for its ‘panda diplomacy’. It sends giant pandas out on loans to other countries for 15-year periods, and any cub born is sent back four years after they are weaned.
