破冰船「雪龍」起航 中國最大型南極考察

極地考察破冰船「雪龍」號於日前正式由上海出航，開始為期一百六十二日的南極科學考察。此次為中國第三十五次的南極考察，考察隊由三百五十一人組成，為中國歷史上規模最大的一次南極科學考察。此次的南極考察活動以完成國家基建工程為目的，亦會進行海洋環境保護調查、物資運輸、固定翼飛機考察和國際合作等工作。整個活動的總航程約3.7萬海里，預計2019年四月返回。

為何南極比北極冷？
雖然南極和北極都是冰天雪地的地方，但由於南極是由大海包圍的陸地，約98%陸地被冰覆蓋；而北極地區則由陸地包圍海洋，冰面積僅為南極的60%左右，因此海洋能吸收更多熱量，使北極地區比南極要暖和得多。

Recently, icebreaking research ship MV Xue Long has officially launched from Shanghai and embarked on its 162-day journey to the South Pole for a scientific study of the location. This is the 35th time China has surveyed Antarctica; the team is made up of 351 people, the highest number on a South Pole survey in Chinese history. This Antarctic study aims to complete a Chinese infrastructure project, and will also carry out projects such as investigating how to protect the marine environment, transporting supplies, inspecting fixed-wing aeroplanes and cooperating internationally. The whole journey is 37,000 nautical miles long and the ship will return to China in April 2019.
