36 giant pandas unveiled Highest number of cubs produced2017.10.24
THIS year, 42 giant panda cubs were produced at the giant panda protection and research centres. In mid-October, 36 cubs were unveiled at the Bifengxia Panda Base (大熊貓研究中心碧峰峽基地) in Sichuan Province (四川省).
During the ceremony, two of the 36 giant panda cubs clung to the workers’ legs while some hugged one another. The panda bases helped produce 42 cubs, which is the highest number of cubs produced in one year. There were 15 pairs of twins. Currently, the youngest is only a month old while the oldest is five months old.
The research centre said that they tried their best to let the giant pandas mate naturally, and only help them along as a last resort. This year, 87 percent of the female giant pandas got pregnant, and 95 percent of the babies survived.
