Moscow gets new park near the Kremlin2017.09.19
THE first new Russian park in decades opens in Moscow (莫斯科). Costing 14 billion rubles (HK$1.9 billion) to build, Zaryadye Park (查爾亞德耶公園) is the first to open in Russia’s capital in 50 years.
The park is located next to the Kremlin (克里姆林宮) and President Putin, alongside Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin, visited it on 9 September, which was also the 870th anniversary of the founding of Moscow.
At over 10 hectares, Zaryadye Park used to be a hotel, which was brought down in 2006. The investors and the city government fought over how the new land should be used. In the end, the city government turned it into a park.
Some Moscow residents dislike the park because Russia is still recovering from a global recession and they think it is a waste of money.
