The Year of the Trump-like Rooster

LAST year, a photo of a Chinese pheasant which looked like US president-elect Donald Trump went viral. Now, there is another bird that looks like him. To celebrate the Lunar New Year, a shopping mall in Taiyuan City (太原市) in Shanxi Province (山西省) has installed a cartoon statue of a rooster in time for the Year of the Rooster.

The statue has many Trump-like features. With a hairstyle matching his, it also has thick eyebrows and a wide-open mouth. The on its right hand is pointing up while its left hand is making an OK sign. Trump has been spotted making both hand gestures.

Although Trump does not seem to be very friendly towards China, he is a popular figure in the country. Many Chinese find his tendency to speak first and ask later refreshing.

Visitors to the mall and passers-by have called the statue cute and posed beside it for pictures. If you also find it cute and want one for yourself, blow-up models of the rooster can be found on online stores. They come in different sizes and sell at various prices, with the most expensive one costing 12,000 yuan (HK$13,400).
