IF it is very hot outside, you can get relief at any shopping mall which has air conditioning. But too much of a good thing can be bad for you and the environment! Some malls have set the temperatures too low. This can be harmful to your health and to Earth.

The environmental group Green Sense (「環保觸覺」) recorded the temperature in 10 malls several times in August and found that most of them were too cold.

The lowest was 19.8C at Yoho Mall (形點) in Yuen Long (元朗). But the coldest on average was Lion Rise Mall (現崇山商場) in Wong Tai Sin (黃大仙) with a reading of 21.7C.

In 2012, the Environment Bureau (環境局) introduced the Energy Saving Charter on Indoor Temperature (《室內溫度節能約章》). It said the indoor temperature from June to September should be 24-26C.

Of the four malls that joined the charter, only The Landmark (置地廣場) met the requirement.
