香港去年發生鉛水事件，美國的密歇根州弗林特市（Flint）同樣鬧出鉛水風波。當地政府為節省開支，2014年轉到弗林特河取水，由於防腐蝕措施不足，導致老化管道滲出鉛。美國總統奧巴馬本月4日造訪當地，並應記者要求，即場飲用當地的自來水。聯邦政府呼籲居民轉用濾水器，但建議6歲以下小童和孕婦，繼續飲用樽裝水。奧巴馬又指，今次的事件是一個很好的機會，讓所有人齊心解決問題。

Last year, Hong Kong was hit by a scandal involving lead in water. Flint, a city in the US state of Michigan, is also struggling with the effects of lead-poisoned drinking water. To save money, it switched its water source to the Flint River. The river water caused more lead to leach from its ageing pipes. After a briefing on the federal response to the city’s lead water crisis on the 4 May, President Barack Obama was asked by a reporter to drink a glass of Flint tap water. Officials want Flint residents, with the exception of pregnant women and children younger than 6, to move away from bottled water and start drinking filtered water from their taps. Obama said, “There is the opportunity out of this complete screw-up, this painful tragedy, this neglect, this disappointment to actually pull together and make for a better future.”
