HAVE you ever heard of Harriet Tubman (塔布曼)? Most Hongkongers probably have not. But from now on, you had better remember her, because you will see her in the future when you use US money.

Paper money in the United States will have a new portrait, and it will be of Harriet Tubman. She was a black woman who lived between 1822 to 1913. At that time, the United States still had a lot of black slaves, and she was one of them. After running away from her white master, Tubman tried her best to end black slavery, because she believed that all humans should be equal, no matter their race or sex. That is why she was chosen to be the face on the new US$20 bill. She will become both the first black person and the first woman to appear on a US banknote.

The face that now appears on the US$20 note is Andrew Jackson (傑克森). He was the United States’ seventh president, and also a slave owner. On the new US$20 bill, he will be moved to the back. That will be quite an interesting arrangement!
