Walt Disney World Resort switches to solar energy
2016.04.26ON 12 April, the Walt Disney World Resort (和路迪士尼世界度假區) in Orlando (奧蘭多), Florida (佛羅里達州), the US, did a very important thing. It turned on a solar facility that sends energy from the sun to the whole theme park. Altogether, 48,000 solar panels are used. The facility is also shaped like Mickey Mouse (米奇老鼠)! It is so huge that you can actually see Mickey’s head from space.
The whole facility provides lots of electricity – five megawatts. This much energy is not only enough for the whole World Resort, but nearby hotels, too. This is a great achievement, but this is not the first time Disney used solar energy. The theme park’s Universe of Energy building has used solar power since 1982!
Disney did this because they want to reduce the company’s carbon emissions. Their aim is to reduce usage to 50 percent by 2020.
