US marine park cancels killer whale performances

A popular marine park in the US has announced that it will cancel its killer whale (also called ‘orca’) performances in 2017. SeaWorld, which is famous for its killer whale, dolphin and sea lion shows, has decided that its orca show in its San Diego (聖地牙哥) park will end soon.

But the shows in its other two branches – San Antonio (聖安多尼奧) and Orlando (奧蘭多) – will still continue.

In recent years, killer whale shows have been criticised by animal rights campaigners as cruel and say that these shows should end. These people claim that killer whales should be sent back to their natural environment – that is, the ocean – instead of being trapped in parks.
