Hillary Clinton to run for US presidency

EARLIER this month, Hillary Clinton (希拉莉) announced on her website that she is running for President of the United States (美國). This came as no surprise to most people because she has been part of US politics for a long time. If she succeeds, she will be the first ever female US president!

The US presidential election is on 8 November 2016. Current president Barack Obama (奧巴馬) – the first ever black President in the US – has won the election twice and held the top post for two terms in a row. Therefore, he cannot run for presidency again.

Hillary Clinton was the First Lady (第一夫人) when her husband Bill Clinton (克林頓) was president from January 1993 to January 2001. She was Senator of New York State (紐約州) from January 2001 to January 2009. She was then Secretary of State from January 2009 to February 2013, taking care of foreign policy.

If Hillary succeeds, she will also become the first First Lady ever to become president herself!
