Art galleries can be fun. Find out for yourself during Hong Kong Art Week.
THE city’s largest art-gallery event will be held this year during Hong Kong Art Week (香港藝術週). More than 50 art galleries will be featured. There will be over 100 events hosted by the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association (香港畫廊協會). Most of them, including Family Art Day and Art Symposium, will be free of charge. Art gallery employees will be on hand to answer your questions, including the history of artworks and their details. One of the aims of HK Art Week is to make people comfortable with galleries, so as to nurture the next generation of artists and art professionals.
THERE are many new events this year, and one to look out for is the Art Treasure Hunts. A smartphone map app has been created by iDiscovery City Walks specially for art week. There are three treasure hunts, each with separate routes. They are in Central, Soho and Aberdeen, and even if you fail to find the treasure, you can discover the different art galleries and art pieces in those areas.
Make some time for Family Art Day. Apart from the largescale exhibits, artists will teach you pencil sketching and face painting. Professional instructors will introduce the mysteries of yoga to visitors.
Career in the arts
IF you want to work in the art industry, do not miss the Student Gallery Tour. In addition to learning more about various artworks, you will have the chance to talk to gallery professionals and ask them how they entered the industry and details of their work.
