DO you think the owners should take responsibility for what their dogs do? The British government thinks so.
Dogs attacking people is becoming more serious in the UK. More than 5,500 postal workers were attacked by dogs last year. In March this year, a 14 year-old girl was attacked by four dogs inside a friend’s house.
These accidents make the British government think when the dogs are out of control and hurt others, their owners should be punished. They are now proposing to amend the Dangerous Dogs Act to tighten the laws.
Under the current law, the maximum sentence for dogs killing is two years in prison. The new suggestion will increase this to up to ten years in prison for the owner. This means under the new proposal, owners of dogs that attack or kill someone could be jailed for ten years.
