ONE of the greatest swimming events in Hong Kong, the New World Harbour Race (新世界維港泳), is going to be held on October 6. This year, 3,400 old and young keen swimmers applied!
The swim will begin at Lei Yue Mun Sam Ka Tsuen Public Pier (鯉魚門三家村公眾碼頭) and end at Quarry Bay Park Public Pier (魚涌公園公眾碼頭). The distance is 1.5km.
Not everyone can take part in the race though. The harbour race allows 2,000 participants only. 500 of them will be in the Racing Groups, where they will compete for prizes. The rest will be in the Leisure Groups with no rankings or prizes.
To win a ticket to enter the race, applicants had to prove their swimming ability and physical fitness in the time trial that took place over the past two weeks.
