HONG KONG is building a railway that connects our city to China (中國). It will be part of a massive railway called the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Link (XRL, 廣深港高速鐵路). The Mass Transit Railway Corp (MTR, 港鐵) planned to complete it in 2015. But something has gone wrong! MTR said the new train service might be postponed for two years to 2017.
MTR said the delay was due to the black rainstorm last month and other challenges. The heavy rain flooded a tunnel in Yuen Long (元朗) and damaged machinery.
Transport Secretary(運輸局局長) Anthony Cheung Bing-leung (張炳良) has asked the MTR Corp to hand in a report on the project.
