THE UN Climate Action Summit took place in New York recently. Over 60 countries joined to discuss what to do after promising to keep the world from warming further when they signed the Paris Agreement in 2016.
Greta Thunberg, the famous 16-year-old climate activist, also spoke at the summit. She criticised various countries for still not doing enough. She added that she should have been going to school without a worry, but the grown-ups have instead “stolen” her dreams and childhood, and now she must work hard to help solve the problem.
More than 60 countries were at this summit and many promised to stop burning coal and push for a greener economy. Germany’s (德國) Chancellor Angela Merkel said her country will increase the total amount of funds for fighting climate change to 4 billion Euros (HK$34.30 billion).
