A POLITICAL party has done a survey about the weight of students’ schoolbags. They found that 86 percent of schoolchildren have backpacks that are too heavy. In fact, the average weight of the schoolbags is 4.3 kilograms.
The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Progress of Hong Kong (DAB, 民建聯) talked to 475 school kids for the survey and suggested that the Education Bureau subsidise schools so they can buy shared textbooks. These textbooks would be stored at school. The DAB also thinks that schools should provide desks that can be locked, so that students can store their textbooks and other school-related items inside.
