ABORNEAN (婆羅洲的) orangutan named Nenette, who lives in a Paris zoo, is celebrating her 50th birthday. Nenette was given a strawberry cake and different kinds of fruits, and zookeepers and visitors sang a birthday song.
Nenette arrived at the Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes in 1972 when she was three years old. During her 47 years in the zoo, she has also painted many pictures. The orangutan is now one of the oldest such apes in captivity or even on Earth, at a time when the number of orangutans in the wild is falling fast.
Since her arrival to the Paris zoo, Nenette has not seen the Bornean jungle again. Many visitors go to the zoo just for a photo with her. And she has been at the zoo longer than many other zoo animals or even some workers.
