DURING January to February 2019, the Hong Kong Professional Teachers’ Union (HKPTU, 教協) did a survey and found that most teachers used Educational Television programmes (ETV)
when teaching, both inside and outside the classroom.
The HKPTU surveyed 656 primary teachers. Nearly 95 percent of them used ETV during class and 88 percent used it outside of class. The teachers said ETV has a positive impact on
students.
ETV programmes teach many subjects, like English, maths, science and social studies. However, in 2018 the Audit Commission (審計署) found that very few schools were showing ETV
programmes, which are made by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK, 香港電台). The commission said the programmes cost a lot of money to make, but have low ratings.
