AFTER an agreement in late March, Italy (意大利) has returned over 700 cultural artefacts to China in early April. Many of these relics are now on display at Beijing (北京).
The exhibition The Journey Back Home (歸來—意大利返還中國流失文物展), at the National Museum of China, is showing the 796 returned artefacts. Items include pottery from the Western Han Dynasty (西漢), Tang Dynasty (唐朝) and Song Dynasty (宋朝).
The relics were first re-discovered in Italy in 2007, by a group tasked with protecting items of cultural heritage. In 2008, China asked Italy to return them. The matter went
to a court in Milan (米蘭) and in November 2018, the judge said Italy had to give the relics back to China.
