IN early April, the budget plan for New York state (紐約州) was passed, and one of the side laws was a statewide ban on many one-use plastic bags. The law, which bans businesses from giving out such bags, will come into effect in March 2020.
The law was proposed by the state governor, Andrew Cuomo, one year ago. This makes New York state the second state to have a plastic bag ban, after California’s (加州) 2016 ban
of the same bags.
If customers want a disposable bag, they will have to pay a fee of five US cents, with two cents going to the local government, and the rest going to green charities. But
newspaper bags, clothing bags, trash bags and reusable bags can still be used.
