THE former Chief Executive, CY Leung (梁振英), recently wrote that wild pigs have been rummaging in waste dumps near his home and that they should be put down like stray dogs and cats. In response, AFCD’s Cheung Ka-shing (張家盛) said the wild pig problem has to do with people’s attitude.
Cheung pointed out that the government has to check if stray cats and dogs have an owner first, before putting them down or letting them be adopted. He said that the reason so many wild pigs go into urban areas is that people feed them and do not dispose of their rubbish properly.
According to Cheung, the government is working with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (香港理工大學) to see whether rubbish bins can be redesigned.
