ON 21 October, the annual New World Harbour Race (新世界維港泳) took place. A record-breaking number of 3,300-plus swimmers, both local and foreign, joined the event and swam across Victoria Harbour.
The opening ceremony was attended by Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor (行政長官林鄭月娥) and various government officials. Lam fired the gun at eight o’clock sharp in the morning and off the swimmers went, in categories such as the Boys’ and Girls’ Youth Group.
Swimmers said the water quality was good, but also complained that the starting point was not big enough. The winner of the International Women’s Group was Wang Yi Chen (王怡臻), from Taiwan (台灣).
