IN the 2018 Asian Para Games (亞洲殘疾人運動會), which took place in Indonesia (印尼) in early October, the Hong Kong team won 48 medals:11 golds, 16 silvers and 21 bronzes. This is the most medals Hong Kong has won in the Games ever.
After the disabled athletes returned to Hong Kong, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor (林鄭月娥) offered her congratulations to the team. She mentioned that the athletes broke new records in individual categories, in addition to the overall rankings, eg, it was the first time Hongkongers won gold in boccia.
The Lam administration has supported disabled athletes since its beginning. For example, the 2018-2019 budget for disabled people’s sports development is HK$70 million, which is partly used to help the athletes for various competitions.
