IN early September, a baboon at the zoo in Devon (雷文郡), the UK, was filmed flossing its teeth. In the video, the baboon in Paignton Zoo was seen poking bristles from a broom and its own hair through its teeth.
According to Phil Knowling, one of the zoo workers, the zoo would give broom heads to the baboons as a toy. He and his fellow zoo workers were surprised to see the baboons taking bristles from the broom head and, while holding each end of the bristle with one hand, use it to floss.
Knowling added that the baboons might just enjoy the feeling of flossing or want to remove something from between its teeth. So it is not flossing daily like dentists have recommended people to do. Knowling added that, either way, watching the baboons do this was funny to him.
