The director of Beijing’s (北京) The Palace Museum, Shan Jixiang (單霽翔), was also at the ceremony. He thanked Hong Kong for the waterfront location of the new museum and the Jockey Club for the $3.5 billion it gave out.
Shan promised to give the Hong Kong museum the best artefacts, such as Chinese calligraphy and ink paintings.
The main theme of the exhibition will be daily life in the Forbidden City (紫禁城), and the displays will be enhanced by interactive activities.
