ON 29 April, there was a parade in Tai Po (大埔) to celebrate Tin Hau’s (天后) – ‘Sky Queen’s’ – birthday. Following a temple ceremony in the morning praying for blessings from Tin Hau, the parade took place during the afternoon, filled with marchers and spectators in costumes.
Some women wore traditional clothing, whereas others, both adults and children, dressed up in superhero costumes, such as Iron Man and Spider-Man. In addition, there were also dragon and lion dances. At the end of the parade was its most important figure, Tin Hau.
The organiser, the Tai Po Old Market Tin Hau Temple, gave out 6,000 lucky bags containing good luck charms and other items. This is the 10th parade the temple has held, and an estimated 20,000 people went to watch it and took many photos.
