SCIENTISTS announced that they have found the oldest human fossil outside of Africa (非洲) in Israel (以色列), and this shows that human beings left Africa 50,000 years earlier than originally thought.
In the Misilya Cave (米斯利亞洞穴) in Israel, the scientists found a fossilised jawbone with several teeth. They then published the discovery in an American science magazine in mid-January. The fossil was from 174,000 to 188,000 years ago, when the earliest human fossils found before were from 90,000 to 120,000 years ago.
The lead author of the article, Israel Hershkovitz of Tel Aviv University, explained, “We have to rewrite the whole story of human evolution, not just for our own species but all the other species that lived outside of Africa at the time.”
