THE Hong Kong government has begun cleaning the city in response to the coming Lunar New Year, starting from 22 January. During the cleaning effort, the Food and
Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD, 食環署) will also improve the conditions of the various facilities it manages, including wet markets, public toilets and waste collection points.
Moreover, the FEHD will alsostep up pest control efforts, ie, killing mosquitoes and rats, in various buildings and streets in different districts, focusing on old tenement buildings and construction sites, etc. Additionally, it will add temporary waste collection points to let Hongkongers throw away largersized household items.
The FEHD advises eatery owners to pay attention to the hygiene of their restaurants and stalls, to avoid fines.
