A YOUNG man in a three-piece suit finished a marathon in Sydney, Australia (澳洲悉尼) in mid-September and set a world record– the fastest person in a suit to finish a marathon.
Matthew Whitaker is a lawyer from North Bondi (北邦迪) and he ran the Sydney Running Festival in his suit. It took him two hours, 44 minutes and 29 seconds to finish. The Guinness World Records officially recognised his feat immediately afterwards.
Whitaker commented, “The first half was fine, but the last 15-20 kilometres
were really, really horrible.” He added, “[The suit] got really heavy and restrictive and slowed me down a fair bit.”
He said he got the idea of running in ‘costume’ from seeing someone run a marathon dressed as a jester in 2016
