THE Consumer Council (消費者委員會) recently discovered that some bubble toys are unsafe. The Council tested 12 types of these toys recently, and two of them have more germs than the amount allowed by the European Union (歐洲聯盟). One of the unsafe ones even had a bad bacterium that can cause sepsis.
The Council found that the soap water in the Smiggle Bubble Pencil and the Disney Princess Bubble Water Blaster have, respectively, 4,600 CFU and 5,200 CFU per gram when the EU limit is 1,000 CFU per gram. The Disney Princess sample even has a bacterium that might lead to bacterial sepsis.
Doctors say that if a child does not feel well, has a weaker immune system, a serious disease, or even just open wounds, they should not touch the bubble toys. Parents should also teach their children not to drink the soap water, and to keep the bubbles from their eyes. Everyone should also wash his or her hands immediately after playing with a bubble toy.
