THE World Happiness Report was released on 20 March, and Hong Kong is in 71st place. It rose four places from 75th place last year. Out of 155 countries, Hong Kong’s rank is slightly above the middle. The top three ‘happiest’ countries are Norway (挪威), Denmark (丹麥) and Iceland (冰島).
The report was published by the United Nations (聯合國) to celebrate International Day of Happiness. Countries and places were ranked in six categories: GDP per capita, healthy years of life expectancy, social support, absence of corruption, perceived freedom to make life decisions, and generosity.
Hong Kong scored 5.472 out of 10, but our healthy years of life expectancy is in 2nd place. Other countries with similar scores are Libya (利比亞), Turkey (土耳其), Paraguay (巴拉圭), the Philippines (菲律賓) and Serbia (塞爾維亞).
