THE MTR Corporation has announced ticket prices for the South Island Line, which will be up and running by the end of December. A four-minute trip from Admiralty (金鐘) to Ocean Park will cost HK$5.30.

Commuters will have to pay HK$6.70 for the 11-minute trip from Admiralty to South Horizons (海怡半島). This costs more than going by bus but during the rush hour a bus journey will take 40 minutes. Passengers travelling from South Horizons to Tin Shui Wai (天水圍) will have to shell out HK$27.90 per ticket, but they will save an hour instead of going by bus.

Sharp-eyed passengers might notice that the journey from South Horizons to Tsuen Wan (荃灣) will cost HK$14.20, while the shorter trip from South Horizons to Hung Hom (紅磡) is priced at HK$15.40.

The seven-kilometre South Island Line runs from Admiralty to South Horizons, stopping off at Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang (黃竹坑) and Lei Tung (利東). Up to 170,000 people are expected to travel on the new line each day.
