THE only time most Hongkongers (香港人) see a pig is in a wet market. If you accompany your mother to market, you might see the carcass of a pig hanging in a butcher’s stall. But residents and passers-by in Sai Wan Ho (西灣河) saw a live pig, although it was a wild one.
The animal was found on a staircase in the private housing estate Les Saisons (逸濤灣) just before 9am on 16 September. When police arrived the wild pig ran off after ramming an officer. Then, while dashing into a park, it hit a male passer-by.
The animal was captured around noon after an officer from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (漁農自 然護理署) hit it with a tranquilliser dart.
