A 24-YEAR-OLD American man was able to move and use his right hand again after being paralysed several years ago. This is due to a new kind of electronic technology, newly developed at Ohio State University, called the ‘Neurobridge’.
Ian Burkhart from Ohio (俄亥俄州) could control his right hand by sending his brain’s signals to the hand by connecting the two parts with electronic devices. He can now hold a bottle, pour its liquids into a jar and use a stick to stir the liquid. He can even move the fingers and use a toothbrush.
However, he can now only do this in a laboratory and for a few hours each day. If this device can be put into his home or if he can carry it with him, it could improve his quality of life a lot.
